Subject: [Invisible Web] Eprints for Library and Information Science (E-LIS)
Eprints for Library and Information Science (E-LIS)
http://eprints.rclis.org/
Eprints for Library and Information Science (E-LIS) is an international open access archive for eprints related toLibrarianship, Information Science and Technology, and relatedapplication activities, in keeping with the objectives of theE Printsmovement and the Free Online Scholarship (FOS) movement.
The purposeof E-LIS archive is to make the full text of the LIS documentsvisible, accessible, harvestable, searchable and useable by anypotential user with access to the Internet. Furthermore this serviceaims to support individuals who wish to publish or otherwise maketheir papers available worldwide.
Open access to LIS papers and their dissemination can also support the building of international LISnetworks.
Who are the partners of the initiative?
Eprints for LIS has been established as a community service by RCLIS(Research in Computing, Library and Information Science) and DoIS (Documents in Information Science) to promote open access to paperson these fields. RCLIS is a project to build a database aboutcurrentand past documents in computing, librarianship, information scienceand technology and related application activities. It is aimed toextend and update DoIS, a service for finding and downloadingarticles and conference proceedings published in electronic formatinthe area of librarianship, information science and technology andrelated application activities. See credits page.
Why an Eprint server for LIS fields?
Nowadays the library and information world is strongly integratedwith the area of computing science and technology. Moreover, institutional metadata creation proves costly, while a moreeffectiveway out is provided the growing trend towards authors' selfarchivingin the framework of the Open Archives Initiative (OAI). A flexiblearchitecture of data and service providers based on metadataharvesting allows authors to store a copy of their documents in somepersonal or institutional archive, and so the documents becomequickly available worldwide.
Is the E-LIS Archive free access?
Eprints for Library and Information Science (E-LIS) access istotallyfree to any user. Users can freely browse, search and access thefull-text without ever having to identify themselves to the server. Ifyouwish to submit a work do you need to register. We encouragelibrarians, libriaries, institutes, organizations and individualresearchers involved in LIS and correlated fields to utilize and contribute to this service.
