[Indonesian NGO] ICIP : The International Centre for Islam and Pluralism
http://www.icipglobal.org/
Vision
The making of a harmonious relationship among various cultural and religious groups, transgressing all civilisations, based on principles of pluralism and multiculturalism.
Mission
ICIP’s main mission is to disseminate the ideas of Indonesia’s moderate and progressive Muslims to audiences in both Indonesia and around the world. It will also disseminate the ideas of international moderate and progressive Muslim thinkers to the Indonesian people.
This Center will fulfill several urgent needs:
(1) It will act as a vehicle for the dissemination of progressive Indonesian Muslim thinking outside of its normal borders. This cutting-edge progressive thinking is lacking in Indonesia as Indonesian scholars do not publish in Arabic or English, thus ICIP will make materials, encompassing a rich, overlooked, source of authoritative progressive Muslim thought, available to the public.
(2) It will act as a means for deepening and amplifying progressive Muslim thought within Indonesia by bringing together high-profile, like-minded thinkers from other parts of the Muslim, as well as Western, world.
(3) Most importantly of all, will facilitate the formation of a regional and international network of progressive Muslim thinkers. This kind of network is urgently needed, not only to provide support and solidarity for solitary fighters in the battle against militancy, but also, to counter the strong linkages that already exist regionally and internationally among hard-line Islamic organizations.
ICIP’s activities are centred on four major sub-themes:
(1) The search for and dissemination of, authoritative Muslim texts supporting pluralism, tolerance, human rights, and democracy;
(2) The promotion of gender equality and women’s political participation within Islamic discourse;
(3) Support for Muslim NGOs, activists and intellectuals engaged in efforts to promote justice, democratic participation, and religious tolerance within the Muslim world; and
(4) Critical exploration of the relationship and interchange of thought between the Muslim world and the “West”.
NGO and Activist Exchange Program- ICIP invites Indonesian NGOs and activists to apply for ICIP’s fellowship exchange program with overseas NGOs, being part of ICIP’s international network in Southeast Asia. The fellows selected for this program will spend two weeks in a host country.

[Education Resources] EDsitement: The Best of the Humanities on the Web
EDSITEMENT: The Best of the Humanities on the Web
http://edsitement.neh.fed.us/
Welcome to EDSITEment, The Best of the Humanities on the Web from the
National Endowment for the Humanities in partnership with the
National Trust for the Humanities, and the MarcoPolo Education
Foundation. This educational partnership brings online humanities
resources from some of the world's great museums, libraries, cultural
institutions, and universities directly to your classroom.
Classroom Internet Integration
------------------------------
One important goal of EDSITEment is to help educators integrate the
Internet as a standard classroom resource. Once you tap into this
seemingly boundless source of ideas, new experiences, and
information, you will recognize that it holds a unique potential for
inspiring real intellectual curiosity in your students and for
stimulating multidimensional intellectual growth.
You can use the Internet to:
- Create increased sharing of the responsibility for learning among
students and teachers.
- Engage students in authentic tasks, designed to help them
understand how scholars, for example, use primary materials to
interpret events or human interaction or expressions.
- Encourage students to work in teams, sparking questions and ideas
off of each other, offering them an experience similar to modern-day
practices in the workplace.
- Enhance students' natural curiosity and love of exploration.
- Stimulate analytical and synthetic thinking.
- Train students to evaluate primary materials, develop and defend
hypotheses with evidence, and comprehend and interpret texts and
ideas.
- Teach analysis of maps, pictures, and other visual representations
to understand people, places, environments, and cultures.
- Enhance foreign language learning by providing easily accessible
authentic language and cultural materials.
- Enhance written expressions as students seek to communicate with
each other and to "publish" their ideas on web pages of their own.
EDSITEment contains a variety of links to other websites and
references to resources available through government, nonprofit, and
commercial entities. These links and references are provided solely
for informational purposes and the convenience of the user. Their
inclusion does not constitute an endorsement.

American Women's History: A Research Guide
http://frank.mtsu.edu/~kmiddlet/history/women.html
Greatly revised and expanded since its last Scout Report mention, (March 13, 1999) Ken Middleton's American Women's History: A Research Guide includes over 2100 citations to print and Internet sources and hundreds of links to digitized primary sources, as well as frequent updates and link checking to ensure the currency of cited resources.
The Research Guide now consists of 4 main sections: an index to resources by subject, an index to resources by state, and two Tools sections offering guidance on finding primary sources (e.g. archival, manuscript, and museum collections, historical newspapers and periodicals), as well as secondary sources (e.g. books, articles, theses and dissertations). Some print resources listed under Marriage are bibliographies and historical overviews; examples of online materials are digital photo databases at the Los Angeles and Denver Public Libraries, that include images of weddings and marriage. Shortcuts to popular, quickly available, online resources are provided from the home page.
